Bible Truth for Everyday Life

5 Bible Verses About Waiting Patiently for God’s Perfect Timing

It’s a cloudy Monday morning when I open my Bible in search of Bible verses about waiting patiently for God’s perfect timing.

Beside me, the amaryllis has burst into full bloom.  It bows low under the weight of its heavy blossom,  and it seems the green stem might just snap in two.  After all of this waiting for it to bloom, I wonder if the blossom might crush it.

I watch the amaryllis become its fullest self, and I wonder about my own growth.

Perhaps this recent season of waiting on God has been more purposeful than I’ve imagined.  Maybe God knows that if I bloom before I’m ready, the weight of it will crush me.

Nevertheless, I’m tired of waiting.

I want my dream to come to pass, and I’m tired of waiting.

Perhaps you’re waiting for God to work in your life today, too.  You might be waiting for him to bring a dream to pass, heal a loved one, or redeem a loss.  Regardless of what you are waiting for, it’s not easy to hold onto hope when you’re tired of waiting.

Let’s look at what the Bible has to say about waiting patiently.

Bible Verses About Waiting Patiently

1. Romans 5:3,4, ESV

Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.

It’s not easy to wait on God when we’re suffering.  However, this verse reminds us that we can rejoice in our suffering because suffering produces endurance, character, and hope.

Much to our dismay, God’s primary tool for helping us grow into maturity is affliction.

Are you weary from waiting on God?  Are you tired of suffering?

Don’t lose heart.  God is using this time to help you grow in character and maturity.  He will use this time of waiting for your good and his glory.  Without the work that is taking place in your heart today, you won’t have the character you need to step into your dream when the time is right.

2. Psalm 23:4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.

The best news in the darkest valley of waiting is that Jesus is still walking with you.  He won’t leave your side.

No matter what your season of waiting looks like, rest in the promise that Jesus is with you.  He is protecting you, defending you, and loving you.  You can trust him to deliver you at the right time.

Bible Verses About Waiting Patiently for God’s Strength:

3. Isaiah 40:31

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Do you feel weary?  Are you tired of waiting?  Keep looking to God.

Wait on the Lord, and he will give you strength.  Additionally, Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us of what to do while we wait: We don’t lean on our human understanding or reasoning.  Instead, we trust that God’s ways are perfect.  We keep looking to him while we wait, and we trust that he will light the paths in front of us.

4. Psalm 27:14

Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!

God’s timing is always perfect.  Be strong, take heart, and keep waiting for him.  His ways are not our ways, but he will never abandon his children.  He also promises to finish what he starts (see Phil. 4:6).

Ask God to give you courage as you wait for him.  In the meantime, he will show you how to be strong and keep working while you wait.

5. Isaiah 30:18

Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him.

Remind yourself that God is looking for ways to show kindness and mercy to you.  He might seem silent, but this does not mean he isn’t working in your life.

When my time of prayer is over, I am still waiting on God.  However, his Word is an anchor.  It reminds me that I can trust him as I wait for his plan to unfold in my life.

I conclude my time of silent pondering by the amaryllis.

I pray the following prayer, “Lord, I trust in you even when I don’t understand your timing.  Please help me to keep my heart soft and keep my eyes on you while I wait for this dream to come to fruition.”
