Overcoming Trials

5 Anchoring Bible Verses for Uncertainty in Life

Somewhere along the blurred line between the lush days of summer and the frosty mornings of autumn, I stared out the window and realized we were stepping into an uncertain future.  I’m a planner, and the uncertainty threatened to make me come unglued.  I needed to find some anchoring Bible verses for uncertainty.

Opening my Bible, I began my search.  As I scanned the pages, I considered my tendency to cling to control.

I wonder if God gently smiles upon me as I aim to hold my world together.  He also offers a better option: I can rest in the reality that I don’t hold my world together after all.

My loving heavenly Father holds all things together, and he’s not worried about my uncertain future.

An Uncertain Future

You might be facing an uncertain future as well.

Maybe your “dream job” isn’t quite as dreamy as you hoped.

Perhaps you thought you’d found your life-long partner, and he left you for someone else.

Maybe you’ve realized you need to pack up and move across the country for the second time this year.

As I stepped cautiously into autumn, the Lord slowly began to teach me.

He showed me that when my hope is in my circumstances, my hope is planted on shifting sands.  However, when my hope is in Jesus, I can step into uncertainty with the promise that Hope walks with me.

Bible Verses for Uncertainty in Life:

God is teaching me how to face uncertainty with faith and trust. Below are five Bible verses for uncertainty in life.  You can find your anchor in these words today.

1. God offers an anchor for your soul, and it will not move.

Our hope in Christ is “an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil, where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us” (Hebrews 10:23). We can rest in Jesus because he goes before us in all things.

Our hope in Jesus is personal.

When Jesus died on the cross, the veil that separated God’s people from his presence was torn in two.

Lasting hope is not fixed on circumstances.

Lasting hope is fixed on a relationship.  As you look at your uncertain future, remember your anchor.  Resist the urge to anchor yourself in your circumstances.  Ask Jesus to be your anchor in uncertain times.

2. You are safe, even when you are uncertain.

Titus 3:5 reads, “he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.”

Jesus saves a believer upon profession of faith, but his saving power does not stop working in the moment of salvation.

The original language uses the word “sozo.” Sozo implies that Jesus continues to deliver us, heal us, save us, and carry us through life’s most challenging circumstances.

Jesus is your salvation.  He continues to deliver you today and beyond.

3. The Lord will fight for you.

Sometimes, I simply need the reassurance that God’s got this. I need to stop trying to orchestrate every detail of my life.  I need to steward my assignment and leave the outcomes in God’s hands.

God fought for his people thousands of years ago as they faced uncertain circumstances, and he will fight on my behalf now.

Exodus 14:14 reads: “The Lord your God will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

Cling to this promise when you need reassurance.

4.  God’s not holding out on you.

It’s easy to look at what others have and feel like God’s holding out on us.

In these moments, we can remind ourselves of the words of Psalm 84:11, “For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.”

5. God’s best for you will be his best for your loved ones as well.

A few years ago, I said goodbye to my two-year-old daughter and left for a mission trip overseas.

I’d never left little Bekah for more than two nights.  Through the experience, I learned that what God calls me to do is not only his best plan for my life, but it is also best for the lives of my loved ones.

Are you facing uncertainty?  Are you worried about your loved ones?  Cling to these words for yourself as well as for your loved ones: “The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me” (Psalm 138:8 NIV).

God’s best for you will be his best for your loved ones as well. #trustingGod Click To Tweet

Bekah and I missed one another terribly.  Nevertheless, she made special memories with her dad and all four of her grandparents.  Our time apart deepened our bond as well as our appreciation for one another.

God’s best plan for my life was also best for everyone involved.  It wasn’t easy.  However, we are wise to remember that God’s best plan is rarely the easy path.

As you stare down an uncertain future, press close to God’s heart.  Stand on his promises.  Trust him to carve the path before you.  You might be blown away by the view.
