10 Bible Verses About the Unknown Future
I sit among the aspen as they flutter quaking hands toward heaven. I’ve come to the woods to pray through my fears about the future, and I open my Bible in search of some comforting Bible verses about the unknown.
Lately, I’ve been looking ahead with anxiety. I want to trust God with the future, but I often feel paralyzed by fear and worry.
Comforting Bible Verses About the Unknown
How do we live without fear of the future and plant our feet on solid ground?
The Biblical Example of Fear-Fighting
As I sit among the aspen, my mind is drawn to two men who decided to stand on God’s promises instead of standing on what they could see and feel.
Nestled in the Old Testament book of Numbers, Joshua and Caleb were among the twelve spies sent to scout out the Promised Land and bring back a report to the people of Israel. Exploration of the Promised Land revealed a rich land with a promise for abundance in agriculture and more. It also revealed fortified cities with unusually large people.
Ten spies reported that the giants were too strong and too big.
Two spies, Joshua and Caleb, chose to stand on God’s promise that despite the dangers, the land was theirs to take. They stood on what they knew to be true instead of standing on what they could see and feel.

This principle is true for our lives, as well. Instead of fearing what bad news tomorrow might bring, we overcome fear by standing on what is true instead of standing on what we can see and feel.

10 Bible Verses About the Unknown
1. Philippians 1:6 (ESV)
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
2. Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
3. Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
4. Proverbs 16:3
Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.
5. Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
6. Proverbs 24:14
Know that wisdom is such to your soul; if you find it, there will be a future, and your hope will not be cut off.
7. Romans 8:28
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
8. Matthew 6:31-34
Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
9. James 4:13-15
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”
10. Romans 12:12
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
Let’s Apply These Bible Verses About the Unknown to Our Lives
I invite you to spend some time meditating on these verses. Let God’s promises wash over you as you grow in trust.
What the enemy wants to use to shake you, God wants to use to plant your feet on a solid foundation.
We each have the opportunity to choose between trust and fear. Choose to trust God in your fearful moments, and you will find an anchor for your soul. You will find strength instead of fear. You will take the instrument intended to weaken you and find strength instead.

I stand to leave the aspen as the stratus clouds begin to spit tiny droplets of rain, and I take one more step into a future that is secure because I know the One who holds it all in the palm of his hand.
